Have you ever wondered if you will last in this profession of ours? Burnout, compassion fatigue and general overwhelm are amazingly common problems in veterinary medicine. Leaving the industry is not your only option if you are feeling this way. What you might not realize is how well-prepared you are to adapt and create a life you love within veterinary medicine. It might not be the exact route you always thought you'd take, but there's definitely a path for you. Doctors Melanie Bowden and Kirsten Ronngren want to help you find happiness and success in your veterinary career. They are doing this by creating Advanced Vets Academy, an online course and community which aims to educate and mentor recent graduates about both medical and personal development topics. Their goal is similar to mine: create a more sustainable life while being a veterinarian - whatever that looks like for you!

Melanie is passionate about supporting the veterinary profession and believes that starts on an individual level. Born and raised in Maine, Melanie became a PNW transplant after attending WSU College of Veterinary Medicine but recently moved back to her home state. When not working, she and her dogs Pip and Tuck can be found skiing, climbing mountains, boating or practically anything else outdoors.
