Personalized help with student loans and repayment for veterinarians and vet students is completely FREE through VIN Foundation! This is done through an anonymous post on the student debt area of the VIN message boards. If someone is not a VIN member, they can create a free VIN Foundation login, which gives access to a small section of the message boards. Posting anonymously allows for a thorough discussion without identifying information being shared and others can learn alongside at the same time. If someone still has questions after a discussion on the message boards, additional help may be available through a phone/Zoom consultation, but it is suggested that a donation be made to VIN Foundation to help offset the time that goes into that session.

Hey there, just me today here with a brief minisode talking about veterinary student debt. Yay. Everyone's so excited-favorite topic. But honestly, it's something that most of us cannot ignore in veterinary medicine. Financial confidence is an integral part of our overall well being and I am convinced that we don't talk about it enough. So I was really lucky and grateful to meet Dr. Rebecca Mears at the AVMA convention last week, and I was excited to learn how many free resources are available from the VIN foundation regarding student debt calculations and even consultations. So I was really happy to learn about the site and all the things that they offer and I started digging into the articles and resources that they provide and it's really, really amazing stuff. Okay, so if you don't already know this personalized help with student loans and repayments for veterinarians and vet students is completely free through the VIN Foundation. They do this through an anonymous post on the student debt area of the VIN message boards. Now, this is especially important for all equine vets who do not get Vin memberships as part of their employment packages. If you do not have a VIN membership, you just have to create a free Vin foundation login and that gives you access to a small section of the message boards. The ven foundation login is totally free, super easy to create, I'll definitely share a link where you're going to do that there's going to be lots of links in this episode's show notes. Once you've created that login, you then go to fill out the debt and income signalman form which provides the details that are needed to discuss a borrower situation. There's a question toward the end of the survey where you can select that you'd like to have an anonymous post created for you. By selecting that option, the student debt team will start that anonymous post and email a direct link to you for that post sounds slightly complicated, but it's actually super easy. So the main reason that they like to utilize the anonymous posts to discuss the situation is so not only the borrower better understand their loans and their repayment options, but others following along can learn alongside as well. Posting anonymously allows for a thorough discussion without any identifying information being shared. It's been shown over and over again to be super helpful for anyone that's involved in this section of then, if you still have questions after this discussion happens on the message boards and you of course follow along to your own situation. Additional help may be available through a phone or a zoom consultation. At that point, they do ask for a suggested donation to the VIN Foundation to help offset the time that goes into that session. I also just want to point out that this is available for students still in school so you can begin planning this process before graduation you can be armed with the knowledge of what you're planning to do, what loan repayment plan you're potentially going to take. There is also a special pre vet area on the VIN Foundation Center. For those looking to learn more about life as a veterinarian applying to vet school or vet school student debt loads, they are encouraged to use the cost of education map on vetschoolbound.org. And then also they can access the Apply smarter message board once a private student creates a VIN login. So just a reminder and a wrap up. Then foundation membership is free. It gets you access to the student debt section. I will share all these links. You can start to plan what you're going to do with your student debt before you even graduate. The more knowledge you have, the better.
